    IronNotes Ignites International Metal Art Collaboration Officially launched in January 2025, At the Borders of Iron (IronNotes) is a European initiative that redefines the role of metal art in contemporary society. Coordinated by LAB University of Applied Sciences, Institute of Design and Fine Arts (Finland), the project brings together six organizations from five countries and is co-funded by the EU’s Creative Europe programme with a total budget of over €1 million. Combining traditional blacksmithing, contemporary art, and ecological thinking, IronNotes: Metal Art Today event explores how iron and metal forging can be reimagined in today’s public art. The project connects professionals, educators, and artists from Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Norway, and Italy. Online Participation Open to International Audiences The project’s first public event, the IronNotes: Metal Art Today seminar, takes place on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, and is fully accessible online and free of charge. Held in English, the seminar offers a wide-ranging program exploring: The role of metal in public art today Traditional forging methods vs. digital and high-tech approaches Sustainability and new practices in metal art and design International attendees are encouraged to join remotely and engage with speakers from across Europe, including artists, educators, and sustainability experts. Exhibition and Live Demonstrations in Finland The project’s first curated exhibition opens on the same day in Lappeenranta, Finland, featuring works by students and artists across partner countries. On-site visitors can also experience live blacksmithing demonstrations on June 18. Fête de la forge au Musée des Techniques de Freudenberg (D) - 10 août 2025 Dimanche 10 août 2025 · 10h00-18h00   Quand les étincelles jaillissent et que le fer lourd se forme sous les coups de marteau puissants, c'est le moment idéal : le Musée des Techniques de Freudenberg vous invite à sa traditionnelle Fête de la forge – une fête pour toute la famille, pour les passionnés de technologie et pour tous ceux qui souhaitent découvrir le véritable savoir-faire artisanal.   Forgerons amateurs et professionnels venus de toute l'Allemagne se réuniront ce jour-là sur le site du musée pour présenter en direct leur savoir-faire traditionnel. Forgeage libre classique, travaux décoratifs artistiques ou objets du quotidien fonctionnels : ici, tout ce que le fer peut produire est forgé ! Les visiteurs pourront non seulement observer les forgerons à l'œuvre, mais aussi poser de nombreuses questions et se laisser conquérir par leur passion pour l'acier flamboyant.   Mais le Festival des Forgerons ne se résume pas à un marteau et une enclume :   Tout le musée est en action, avec ses impressionnantes machines historiques, sa grande machine à vapeur et de nombreux autres monuments techniques d'autrefois.   vom 4. bis 7 September 2025   The Casentino Valley is ready to welcome the XXVI European Biennial Show of Blacksmithing Art: all of the volunteers of our Association, supported by the entire town of Stia, are already working hard to organise the next edition which will be held from 04. to 7 September 2025.                  From 4 to 7 September 2025 – The 26th Edition of the European Biennial of Blacksmith Art Returns to Stia, Tuscany   Forging, applied arts, and design. From 4 to 7 September, the town of Stia, in the province of Arezzo (Tuscany), will host the 26th edition of the European Biennial of Blacksmith Art – an international event dedicated to the craftsmanship and artistic expression of wrought iron. The Biennial is promoted and organized by the Autonomous Association for the Biennial of Blacksmith Art in Stia and the Municipality of Pratovecchio Stia.   For four days, blacksmiths from all over the world will gather in this charming Tuscan village in the Casentino Valley to share techniques, exchange ideas and best practices, and spark creativity. Since 1976, the Stia Biennial – the world’s longest-running exhibition of artistic wrought iron – has transformed the town’s squares and streets into an open-air workshop. The event preserves and celebrates an ancient craft deeply rooted in the local culture while projecting it into the future, reimagining ironwork for contemporary society.   The Biennial is also an opportunity to bring a wider audience closer to the value of handcrafted and artistic ironwork. Live forging demonstrations, exhibitions of wrought iron pieces, conferences, markets, children’s workshops, music, and other side events inspired by the theme of “Fantasy” will allow visitors to see forging techniques up close and interact with artisans.   WORLD FORGING CHAMPIONSHIP The highlight of the Biennial is the World Forging Championship, this year inspired by the theme “Myths and Magic.” Blacksmiths from around the globe compete, individually or in teams, to create an artistic iron piece showcasing skill, mastery, and creativity – while also exchanging techniques and ideas.   INTERNATIONAL SCULPTURE COMPETITION Another major competition is the International Sculpture Contest, entitled “Magica-mente” for 2025. Artists submit an original design, and if approved, they create the piece for display during the Biennial. The three winning works will remain as part of the public art in Pratovecchio Stia.   OTHER COMPETITIONS The event also includes a design and drawing competition and a photography contest.   A LOGO BY PIETRO ANNIGONI The Biennial, conceived in 1976 by Pier Luigi della Bordella and Ivan Bruschi with the support of the local administration, has welcomed for nearly 50 years both master blacksmiths and emerging talents from all over the world. Its logo depicts a blacksmith, drawn in sanguine and charcoal in 1976 by painter Pietro Annigoni, who had strong ties to Stia. Visitors can admire his fresco of Saint Francis with the birds in the nearby Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta, along with the many wrought iron works donated to the town over the years. THE BIENNIAL IN EUROPE As an international centre of excellence, Stia is an active member of the Ring of the European Cities of Iron Works, a network established in 2003 that brings together Europe’s most important wrought iron traditions through cultural exchanges and shared projects. This year, the Biennial is also part of the European project Iron Notes, co-funded by the EU under the Creative Europe Programme.   Smeedfeest zaterdag 13 en zondag 14 september 2025 Werfsmederij bestaat 20 jaar   Beste NGK-leden en donateurs,   In april ontvingen jullie al een vooraankondiging en hierbij volgt dan de officiële uitnodiging voor de NGK-smedendagen op zaterdag 13 en zondag 14 september in Batavialand ! Deze bijzondere editie is extra feestelijk, want we vieren het 20-jarig jubileum van de NGK-Bataviawerfsmederij. Het beloven twee fantastische dagen vol smeedplezier, ontmoeting en ambacht te worden. Dat wil je niet missen!   De dagen worden georganiseerd in samenwerking met de enthousiaste medewerkers en vrijwilligers van Batavialand en de NGK-evenementencommissie. De eerste voorbereidingen zijn al in volle gang!   Maar om er een écht geslaagd weekend van te maken, kunnen we nog heel goed extra handjes gebruiken, bijvoorbeeld bij het opbouwen van het terrein op vrijdag 12 september en het opruimen op zondag 14 september.
