Brushes
During forging, the extreme heat causes scale to form on the surface of the workpiece. With our selection of scale brushes, you can clean and prepare the surface effortlessly.
However, these brushes are not only suitable for removing scale and impurities, but also for giving your workpieces a new shine through brass plating/rubbing.
Our product range includes:
- Scale brush - Flat wire bristles (extremely heavy-duty for coarse scale)
- Scale brush - Round wire - robust (slightly finer than flat wire bristles)
- Brass brushes (made of solid brass wire, not just brass-plated)
- Standard wire brushes
- Stainless steel brushes

E-Mail:
Why do I need a descaling brush for forging?
When steel is heated in the forge, an oxide layer (scale) forms on the surface. If this scale is hammered into the glowing workpiece during forging, it results in unsightly dents and material defects. With a massive and robust descaling brush, coarse scale can be swept off quickly and cleanly right after removing the workpiece from the fire.
What is the difference between a descaling brush and a standard wire brush?
• Descaling brush (flat wire): Features extremely sturdy, wide flat wire bristles. It is specifically designed for heavy workshop use to effortlessly chip off even tightly adhering, coarse scale.
• Wire brush (round wire): Uses crimped or straight round wires. It is ideal for finer cleaning tasks, finishing, rust removal from surfaces, or light scale.
Which material is suitable for which application?
• Flat wire / Steel wire: The standard for steel and iron work to remove scale, slag, and rust.
• Brass brush (solid brass wire): Ideal for finishing. When brushing hot steel, a fine brass sheen transfers to the surface (golden / brass finish). Our brass brushes consist of solid brass wire, offering a significantly longer service life than brass-coated steel wires.
• Stainless steel brush: Essential when working with stainless steel (Inox) to prevent contact corrosion and flash rust caused by regular steel abrasion.
Do the wooden bodies of the brushes withstand the heat of the workpiece?
Yes, the brush bodies are made of robust wood (e.g., beechwood) and are designed for use on hot workpieces. The brushing process usually takes only a few seconds, so the wooden body remains undamaged. Additionally, ergonomic handles ensure sufficient safety distance from the heat source.
Of course, you should not place the brush directly onto glowing coals.
Can the brushes also be used for post-processing after forging?
Absolutely. Besides descaling during forging, the brushes are excellent for cleaning weld seams, deburring workpieces, and many other tasks.
