    Exhibition + Workshops   From May 4th to October 9th, 2025, the copper town of Stolberg (Rhineland) in cooperation with the International Association of Blacksmiths (IFGS) invites you to the metal designer exhibition MetAlles - The Work of Hands.   This exhibition will cover the entire spectrum of metal design, from forged objects to metal artworks. The exhibition areas are the interior of the Zinkhütter Hof Museum, the Frankentalwiese and around the Bastinsweiher in the busy city center.   The copper town of Stolberg is planning a series of events for the duration of the exhibition.     Forged in Ireland visit the 'That Beats Banagher Festival' for the third year to show off traditional blacksmith skills, smelt local bog iron and host the annual 'Battle of the Blacksmiths'.   With forging competitions for the coveted 'Golden Anvil' , displays and demonstrations, stalls and much more happening in the picturesque town of Banagher. Whether classic open-die forging, artistic decorative work, or functional everyday objects – here, everything the iron can produce is forged! Visitors can not only watch the blacksmiths at work, but also ask plenty of questions and become infected with their passion for glowing steel.   But the Blacksmith's Festival is more than just hammer and anvil:   The entire museum is in action – including the impressive historical machinery, the large steam engine, and many other technical monuments from bygone times.   vom 4. bis 7 September 2025   The Casentino Valley is ready to welcome the XXVI European Biennial Show of Blacksmithing Art: all of the volunteers of our Association, supported by the entire town of Stia, are already working hard to organise the next edition which will be held from 04. to 7 September 2025.   September 4–7, 2025, Tuscany – The 26th European Biennial of Blacksmithing Art in the medieval village of Stia   This year, the Biennial is part of the European project Iron Notes, which involves professionals and events from Italy, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Estonia.   The 26th edition of the European Biennial of Blacksmithing Art will take place from September 4 to 7, 2025, in the charming medieval village of Stia, nestled in the Casentino Valley in Tuscany, Italy. The Biennial is an internationally renowned event dedicated to artistic and traditional wrought ironwork, promoted and organized by the Autonomous Association for the Stia Biennial of Blacksmithing Art and the Municipality of Pratovecchio Stia.   Forging, applied arts, and design: for four days, blacksmiths from all over the world will gather in this Tuscan village to exchange ideas, refine techniques, share best practices, and ignite creativity. The highlight of the event is the World Forging Championship, where artisans will demonstrate their talent and mastery at the anvil, striking red-hot iron with hammer and passion. A wide range of competitions and side events enrich the program: from sculpture and design to photography and the discovery of Tuscany’s cultural and artistic heritage.   Since 1976, every two years, the Stia Biennial – the world’s longest-running exhibition of artistic wrought iron craftsmanship – transforms the streets and squares of the village into a vast open-air workshop. The event promotes the ancient craft of forging, deeply rooted in the local tradition and community, while projecting it into the future. It aims to build a new and contemporary vision of ironwork in line with the evolution of society. At the same time, it offers the public the opportunity to discover the value of artisanal work and artistic iron creations.   Live demonstrations, exhibitions of wrought iron pieces, conferences, markets, workshops for children, and musical performances make up a rich program that allows visitors to experience forging techniques firsthand and interact directly with the artisans.   Founded in 1976, the Biennial of Stia has, for nearly 50 years, welcomed master blacksmiths and young talents from across the globe, celebrating their creativity and skill.   Smeedfeest zaterdag 13 en zondag 14 september 2025 Werfsmederij bestaat 20 jaar   Beste NGK-leden en donateurs,   In april ontvingen jullie al een vooraankondiging en hierbij volgt dan de officiële uitnodiging voor de NGK-smedendagen op zaterdag 13 en zondag 14 september in Batavialand ! Deze bijzondere editie is extra feestelijk, want we vieren het 20-jarig jubileum van de NGK-Bataviawerfsmederij. Het beloven twee fantastische dagen vol smeedplezier, ontmoeting en ambacht te worden. 19 ème Rencontre Internationale à Arles sur Tech - 17-19 Oktober 2025 The Artistic Ironwork Meeting (3rd Weekend of October) in ARLES SUR TECH - to allow all professionals to work together, to exchange their techniques and their know-how.

    Background   Traditionally, grave crosses or tombstones made by local blacksmiths have played a crucial role in commemoration and mourning in many parts of the world.   These tombstones provide a locally made, sustainable and meaningful way to honour loved ones who have passed away. The tradition of having a tombstone made by a blacksmith was instrumental in creating a strong cultural identity within communities. These tombstones created by local blacksmiths not only reflect the region's craft traditions, but also continually refine artisan techniques and aesthetics. Today, the development of new interpretations of regional traditions is also increasing.   A local blacksmith making a tombstone for a deceased person offers a unique opportunity to preserve that person's memory with a highly personal tombstone. This tombstone highlights the personality of the deceased as well as their connection to family, region or faith. In this situation, the blacksmith acts not only as a skilled craftsman, but also as an artist. Through close collaboration and dialogue, he interprets the wishes of the mourner or the deceased.   These traditions have not only been an essential part of building a strong cultural identity and supporting the local economy. They have also been part of a small-scale local manufacturing system that is in many ways more environmentally friendly than large-scale industrial production and global transportation of raw materials and finished products.   In our rapidly changing society, cemeteries also reflect broader societal changes. In recent decades, global industry has pushed blacksmiths out of this market, leading to the disappearance of regional cultures, customs and traditions. At the same time, digital memorials and online tributes are becoming more common, complementing physical gravestones.   Given these challenges, there is a growing need for new rituals or the revival of old ones. We believe that traditional blacksmithing can develop innovative concepts that offer new approaches to contemporary societal needs.   Competition We hope that the Gravemarker - forging future memories competition will be a contribution that will serve as an inspiration for everyone.   Deadline: 1 November 2025 Concept development: 8-10 concepts will be developed in collaboration with us.   In 53 Berufen werden rund 600 junge österreichische Fachkräfte (Lehrabsolvent:innen, BMHS-Absolvent:innen, FH-Absolvent:innen) gegen ihre Berufskolleg:innen antreten, um sich ein Ticket für die internationalen Berufswettbewerbe WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 und EuroSkills Düsseldorf 2027 zu sichern. Der Hauptbewerb der Staatsmeisterschaften wird von 20. bis 23. November 2025 im Messezentrum Salzburg stattfinden. In einzelnen Berufen finden die Qualifikationen auch abseits des Bewerbes in Salzburg statt - zB Floristik bzw. Tourismusberufe - Hotel Rezeption, Koch/Köchin, Restaurantservice... Auch die Schmiede sind am Start und werden von uns unterstützt! Premiere bei „AustrianSkills“: Auch Schmiede können sich ab sofort anmelden Der Startschuss ist gefallen: Ab sofort können sich interessierte Nachwuchsfachkräfte für die Staatsmeisterschaften der Berufe anmelden. 550 Teilnehmende werden von 20. bis 23. November 2025 in Salzburg um den Staatsmeistertitel in ihrem Beruf kämpfen. Erstmals werden auch Schmiede ihr Know-how unter Beweis stellen. ÖSTERREICH. Jungfachkräfte, aufgepasst: Von 20. bis 23. November 2025 verwandelt sich das Messezentrum Salzburg in das Zentrum der österreichischen Berufsbildung. Auf dem Messegelände Salzburg finden zeitgleich die Staatsmeisterschaften der Berufe (AustrianSkills) inklusive internationaler EM-Competition, die „BIM – Berufsinfo Messe“ sowie die „BeSt – die Messe für Beruf, Studium und Weiterbildung“ statt. Ergänzt wird das Angebot durch die Europäische Ausbildungskonferenz (EAKON) – ein zweitägiges Fachforum mit Keynotes, Diskussionsrunden und Best-Practice-Beispielen rund um Berufsbildung, Fachkräftesicherung und innovative Ausbildungsmodelle im europäischen Kontext. Die EAKON richtet sich an Ausbilder:innen, HR-Verantwortliche, Bildungsexpert:innen und Entscheidungsträger:innen aus ganz Europa und bietet ihnen eine zentrale Plattform für Wissenstransfer, strategische Vernetzung und die Weiterentwicklung beruflicher Bildung. Über SkillsAustria SkillsAustria ist ein gemeinnütziger Verein der WKO und koordiniert als Zentrum für Berufswettbewerbe die österreichischen Staatsmeisterschaften (AustrianSkills). Deren Sieger vertreten Österreich bei den internationalen Bewerben – EuroSkills und WorldSkills. Darüber hinaus ist SkillsAustria für die Vorbereitung und Entsendung des österreichischen Teams zu den internationalen Berufswettbewerben sowie für die Öffentlichkeitsarbeit verantwortlich. Seit 1958 ist die Wirtschaftskammer Österreich Mitglied von WorldSkills International und entsendet seit 1961 regelmäßig ein österreichisches Team zu den internationalen Berufsweltmeisterschaften. Zudem ist die WKÖ seit 2007 Mitglied von WorldSkills Europe. Österreich ist bei EuroSkills seit den ersten Europameisterschaften 2008 am Start. SkillsAustria wird von der WKÖ, den neun Wirtschaftskammern in den Bundesländern sowie den Fachorganisationen der Sparten Gewerbe und Handwerk, Industrie, Tourismus und Freizeitwirtschaft, Information und Consulting, Handel sowie Transport und Verkehr finanziert. Mitfinanziert werden die Tätigkeiten von Seiten des Bundesministeriums für Arbeit und Wirtschaft sowie des Bundesministeriums für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Forschung. Unterstützt wird das SkillsAustria-Team zusätzlich von Giesswein Walkwaren AG, workwear engelbert strauss, Schütze Schuhe, Würth, dem WIFI Österreich und dem Fachverband Personenberatung und Personenbetreuung.
