Meister - Helmut Brummer
Kunst- und Werkzeugschmied
It seems as if time has stood still in Helmut's workshop near Munich.
An old Bêché air hammer strikes the glowing forged part like clockwork. With precision and a good eye, Helmut Brummer works on new tools that make working in the forge easier.
He produces various tools in small batches on his machines and by hand, making them a pleasure to use later.
But not only tools, but also various artistic ironworks are created in Helmut Brummer's forge.
Nail Forging
A Short Guide
In this video, Helmut Brummer demonstrates how to forge a nail with a nail iron.
The video is a bit dated but still relevant.
Nail forging or nail smithing used to be a craft that specialized in nail making. Due to machine and automated production, this profession was gradually replaced, and hand-forged nails have now become rare.
Each nail is unique, and despite free-form forging and eye-to-eye measurement, an experienced blacksmith can achieve good dimensional accuracy.
The customer can determine the nail shape themselves.
We have our nails manufactured in small factories, and if it says "hand-forged," our nails are hand-forged!
The finishing hammer is used for smoothing forged surfaces and for precise alignment. It is fixed in the square hole, and its ground face provides a flat surface for accurate results. Application: Smoothing and aligning (e.g., knife blades) while hot after rough forging. Function: Eliminating structural irregularities for a clean surface finish Fixation: In the square hole of the anvil or vise Special feature: Flat, ground working face Tip: Ideal for straightening knife blades or when the anvil face is worn.
for left hand cutting very low hight, suitable for power hammers, handforged, height 30 mm, length 400 mm.
for right hand cutting very low hight, suitable for power hammers, handforged, height 30 mm, length 400 mm
symmetric, for cutting very low hight, suitable for power hammers, handforged of one piece of steel, height 15 mm, length 400 mm
made of C75, open-die forged, hardened, hardened and ground, Length approx. 170 mm For the robust application! Stable and free-form forged, this center punch is extremely stable. The design ensures optimal handling. Forging and hardening the C75 steel makes these punches very hard and resilient and should the point ever become blunt it can be easily resharpened. Characteristics: hand forged C75 - hard and resilient nicely balanced robust First-class quality from a small German master forge.
